Seyyed Hossein Nasr was born in Tehran, Iran where he received his early education. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an undergraduate degree in Physics and Mathematics. He went on to Harvard University where he studied Geology and Geophysics, and completed a Ph.D. in the History of Science and Philosophy. He is a world-renowned scholar on Islam and is currently a University Professor at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is the author of over fifty books and five hundred articles on topics such as traditional metaphysics, Islamic science, religion and the environment, Sufism, and Islamic philosophy. Nasr speaks Persian, English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic.
