Imam Plemon T. El-Amin has served for the past twenty-three years as the Resident Imam of the Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam, one of the largest and most progressive Mosques in the United States. He worked closely as an aide and supporter of Imam W. Deen Mohammed and his Ministry, The Mosque Cares.

With his leadership, the Atlanta Masjid has developed the Clara Mohammed Elementary and W. Deen Mohammed High Schools in the same neighborhood of East Atlanta. These schools have continuously produced for twenty-eight years exceptional students of moral and academic acumen and has sent forth young scholars to numerous universities and colleges including Harvard, Standford, Morehouse, Spelman, Duke, Michigan, Vanderbilt and Smith.

Working as a close aide and supporter of Imam W. Deen Mohammed, Imam El-Amin has traveled the Nation and the World, representing concerns and interests of Muslim Americans in such places as Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Sudan, Palestine, Israel, Jerusalem, Egypt, Morocco, Spain, Turkey, Rome, England, Denmark, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and South Africa. On two occasions, Imam El-Amin was part of a select delegation of Muslim leaders that traveled to Saudi Arabia with Imam W. Deen Mohammed to assist in the religious orientation of the US Military in the Gulf Crisis. He organized and led two delegations of progressive Muslim young adult leaders to participate in two month study tours in Malaysia to build international bridges.

Imam Plemon T. El-Amin is a founding board member and former President of the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta (FAMA), the largest and most influential interfaith organization in Atlanta. FAMA oversees monthly interfaith dialogues and programs to promote and deepen trust and understanding among members of all faiths. Imam El-Amin is the Director of World Pilgrims, and interfaith effort to develop friendships among faith leaders through travel and exchange. He has led eight journeys of thirty to thirty-six different Muslims, Christians and Jews to Turkey, Morocco, Spain, Greece, Jordan and Jerusalem and brought them back home friends committed to interfaith work and relationships.

Imam El-Amin is a native Atlantan and has served as a Faith advisor to three mayors of the City and to two governors, through the Georgia Human Relations Commission. He is currently a board member of the Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters (AIB), the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority (AFCRA), the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta (FAMA), the Religious Advisory Board of Emory University, the Atlanta Police Foundation, and the Atlanta Majlis-Ash Sura.

He is a 1972 graduate of Harvard University. He converted to the religion of Al-Islam in 1974 and became Imam under the tutelage of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed and Imam Ibrahim Pasha. He has performed the Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) twice, in 1978 and in 2006, and has performed minor Pilgrimages (Umra) on six other occasions. He has lectured at hundreds of masajid (mosques), schools, colleges, conferences, correctional institutions, and community gatherings and has been a frequent speaker at churches, synagogues and other places of worship. He is married to Cassandra Scott El-Amin and is the father of two adult children, Attorney Fatima Ziyad and Fareed Abdullah El-Amin and grandfather of Haneef, Sultan, and Naja.
