R.B. Davidson MacLaren is Director of the Thesaurus Islamicus Foundation and Dar al-Kutub Manuscript Project in Cairo, Egypt and Executive Director of the Islamic Manuscript Association in Cambridge, England. He is an Associate Member of Pembroke College, University of Cambridge and a Visiting Scholar at the University’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Centre of Islamic Studies. Davidson studied Islamic theology, Islamic art history, and manuscript conservation. He is particularly interested in Ottoman calligraphy, the Ottoman and Mamluk arts of the book, Ottoman Sufism, Ottoman and Turkish folk music, and museology in the Muslim World.
